Maria’s book with its gentle verses and vibrant illustrations celebrates a child’s wonder at the magic of the world. Following the seasons' tones, the verses invoke kindness and gratitude for nature’s simplest gifts, giving a chance to pause and reflect on the beauty of life. The book also has strong connection to place, celebrating and acknowledging country through the use of Darkinjung language - the first peoples language of the Central Coast NSW. A timeless book to share and to cherish, giving a unique opportunity to connect with your child on a deeper level.

About The Author
Maria was born in Poland and first arrived in Australia when she was two. Since then she grew up between two countries, always enjoying her time in and with nature. She now lives with her family on the Eastern Coast of Australia and still enjoys being outside exploring whenever she can.
'The Sea, the Tree and Me' is Maria’s first book, created in close collaboration with her friend Somalie Galetti Cook, who has brought the verses to life with her vibrant illustrations.
This child’s book of verses encourages both children and their parents to tap into the space of gratitude, offering a refreshing moment that emboldens us to live life gratefully.
About The Illustrator
After completing her HSC at a Rudolf Steiner School, illustrator, Somalie Cook, graduated from the University of New England in 2017 with a Bachelor of Social Work. Since then, she has worked as a case manager within the Foster Care System and as a community support worker in the field of Disability and Mental Health.
Somalie saw 'The Sea, the Tree and Me' as an opportunity to combine her passion as an advocate for the positive development and wellbeing of children with her artistic interests. She is very proud to be a part of this passion project and hopes the book’s essence will help parents build positive and secure relationships with their children.
Through her depictions of Australia’s vibrant flora and fauna, Somalie aimed to capture a sense of childish wonder and adventure, encouraging all parents to delight in their child’s world at every opportunity.
'A beautifully written book that is hard to put down. With each story ending I was met with a “can we please read another one” from my 6-year-old daughter.
Filled with stories of our surroundings, the language and tone that it is written in is quite soothing and calm, it is perfect to read just before bedtime. In my opinion, a book that should be a part of any child’s collection.'

'Maria’s gratitude verses conjure those moments of quiet wonder and delight that we experience day by day while adventuring, or at home, with our young children.
With playful prose, the natural world is seen and honoured in these verses as though through the eyes of a child. These are verses to read with your child snuggled close as the seasons of the year are traversed.
Maria has created beautiful little touchstones of the small child’s being in the world, evoking for us this simple time of joy, innocence and play.'

'This beautifully written and illustrated book took me back to a place in childhood, where the world was warm, wholesome and wonderous.
Suffused with love, this book is nourishing for children, parents and their relationships'.

Author
'There is something quite sacred about this beautifully presented book. It is a lovely reflection from a parent, inspired by daily walks in nature with her children, that when enjoyed alone or shared with children will remind anyone of the beauty and calmness to be found in stopping and reflecting. Because it's tied into the seasons, to me it really does weave a thread through the natural rhythms of living that are so easy to forget in the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Although it's pitched as a book of gratitude verses for children aged 3-8, the verse isn't child-like and may be over lots of children's heads but in the sharing of it there's plenty they will understand.. the warmth of socks in winter, the way the wind moves and the like... they (and their big people!) certainly will be encouraged to slow down, listen and imagine.
The author's use of the Darkinjung language in the titles of the verse acknowledge the traditional custodians of the area and the Indigenous connection to country while quite naturally and respectfully integrating Indigenous language and sense of place into children's reality.
Exquisite illustrations... The Sea, The Tree & Me is a gift to the senses.'
